We are making the game using the Adventure Game Studio, which is an unbelievably great freeware game developing software developed by Chris Jones. It has actually been great fun learning the system and its coding procedures. AGS is made in a way as such to be both very accessible and incredibly complex - meaning that for a game such as this there are virtually no limitations in what can be achieved.
It's a great programme - many hundreds of indie game developers have Mr Jones to thank for giving them the tools to try and achieve the dreams swirling around in their minds! Some amazing and professional quality games have been made using the system - immediately springing to mind are the Wadjet Eye games like Gemini Rue and Resonance, which are modern classics of the Adventure genre. Recently, innovative games like The Cat Lady have continued to show that AGS is a great tool not only for the home tinkerer but for people with serious commercial ambitions for their games.
The system is perfect for what we are try to achieve - a game with that classic Sierra point and click feel. We are really trying to get something that feels a bit like Gabriel Knight, in the sense that it is a bit dark and deals with paranormal subjects, but also has elements of humour in the dialog and situations.
In our next update, we will tell you all a bit more about who we are and our roles in making this game. Already, hundreds of man hours have gone into making it, and we really hope we will create an enjoyable game.
We hope to finish a demo in the next couple of months, so please keep an eye on our website for that.
In the meantime, take a look at the AGS website and be inspired!
